What makes a great website?

Well designed and functional

A website should reflect your company, products/services, and brand. So, the design of your website should align with the brand image and be visually appealing and professional. Ensure you are utilising UX (User Experience) design principles which focus on having a deep understanding of the users, what they need and value, their abilities, and limitations. All websites should be designed with the target audience in mind.

The entire site should work efficiently, with no errors and every page should be fast and functional and have clear, concise, proofread content with any embedded links tested. Broken, slow, or poorly constructed pages result in visitors leaving your website and going to a competitor instead.

Easy to use

Visitors to the website should be able to find the information they want quickly and easily. User experience (UX) plays a key role in helping visitors use, understand, and stay on your website. Create simple and logical navigation with a clear hierarchy. Use a consistent layout and visual cues throughout to improve the UX and functionality of your site.

Optimised for mobile

According to Statista, over 60% of web traffic will be from mobile phone users. Therefore, the design of your website must be fully responsive across devices, adjusting automatically to screen size. Optimising for mobile devices will improve visitors’ experience and SEO Rankings.

Fresh, quality content

Be interesting and new. Use language that makes sense to the target audience. Avoid jargon, corporate speak and acronyms. Blogs and social media updates to the website are a fantastic way to add fresh content to the site regularly.

Contact information

Make it easy for users to contact you for more information. Offer multiple points of contact, such as phone, email, live chat, social media, and an easy-to-use contact form.

Clear call to action

Have a clear and relevant call to action (CTA) on each page of the website, such as:

  • Company phone number and email address for enquiry
  • Follow company social media accounts
  • Download guides or booklets
  • Book a meeting or table via a booking system
  • Subscribe to newsletters

Optimised for search and social media

Using SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is the process of getting traffic to your website through organic search in search engines, like Google. It aims to improve your website’s position on the search results page. Some ways to improve the SEO of your website are:

  • Use page titles and meta and alt tags on every page/image.
  • Optimize content on your site to align with words real people search for.
  • Use appropriate keywords in content and links.
